Minority Law School Admissions Event - 03.3.2010
We hosted our event on Wednesday, March 3, 2010. Our event was a half-a-day program where we had about 30 minority high school juniors and seniors who have shown interest in the law. Everett and Eastern high schools in Lansing had their students attend our event. The day started with presentations by our admissions, financial aid, and career services office, who discussed what the students need to do in order to get into law school, the realities and opportunities to finance your law school education, and career options in the practice and non-practice of law. We then had a panel made-up of a minority judge, attorney, law student, and professor, who discussed their experiences and life stories on why they attended law school. They also discussed their past and current professional experiences from a minority perspective. At each session, students were given and opportunity to ask questions to the presenters. Finally, we presented gifts to the students, interactive lunch session, and gave them a tour of our courtrooms. During the tour of the courtroom, they were able to see physically, the layout of a courtroom and the role each person plays.

Judge Wilma Palmer as guest speaker, a law student panel discussion, a luncheon with minority leaders in our community, a meeting with Judge Carlos Chappelle, a tour of the Tulsa County Courthouse and tour of Conner & Winters Law Firm.
