The Jacksonville University College of Law is in one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country. Located in the legal epicenter of Jacksonville, Fla., we are mere steps from the state and federal courthouses and surrounded by prominent legal organizations. Our full-time Juris Doctor program offers small class sizes designed for individualized attention, hands-on experience through externships, and easy access to the City of Jacksonville’s (COJ) greatest legal resources. Our students also have ample opportunities to network within the legal community from day one, attending meetings and events with legal organizations and speaking with practicing lawyers during visits to the courthouse.

The student-centered approach at Jacksonville University College of Law offers the best of traditional legal fundamentals coupled with innovative education to equip our students with the knowledge and skills to excel in the new and constantly changing world of law.

The JD Program

The College of Law offers small class sizes designed for individualized instruction, competitive scholarships, easy access to Jacksonville’s greatest legal resources, and strong community connections to legal professionals. 

The J.D. degree is a full-time academic program designed to be completed in three years. The 90-credit curriculum provides a foundation of critical thinking, legal research and analysis, substantive law, and lawyering skills to prepare future lawyers, lawmakers, and leaders. Students achieve the skills and foundational knowledge necessary to pursue a successful career in law through the required and elective academic coursework, experiential learning opportunities, cocurricular activities, and other College programming.

Student Success and Bar Prep

The Student Success and Bar Prep Program will be with you every step of the way because it is designed specifically for you. Through one-on-one counseling, simulations, workshops, presentations, and traditional classroom instruction, this program will provide you the resources and guidance needed to achieve your best in the classroom, excel on the bar exam, and prepare you to enter the practice of law.

Cocurricular Opportunities

Co-curricular activities provide students the opportunities to earn academic credit and further develop their study of the law and skills in areas including legal practice, oral and written communications, and leadership. Current co-curricular activities include:

  • Jacksonville University Law Review
  • Moot Court
  • Mock Trial

Externship Program

The Jacksonville University College of Law’s externship program allows students to receive academic credit for work performed at organizations approved by the College of Law. Approved externships sites may include federal and state courts, government agencies, public interest/legal services organizations, and in-house corporate counsel offices.

The Jacksonville University College of Law is part of a vibrant campus community. Law students are able to participate in social organizations, identity groups, intramural sports, professional associations, and other activities open to all Jacksonville University students. Career Placement and Bar Passage

The Office of Career and Professional Development assists students with career planning, resume development, and preparing for the job search through individualized counseling, detailed resume and cover letter reviews, and professional development programming. We also welcome employer opportunities and look forward to connecting the legal community with our students.

Jacksonville University's Juris Doctor program has an estimated annual tuition cost of $36,000 (based on a $1,200/per credit hour rate) and $380 in annual fees. During the application process, there is also a one-time $150 document fee. All Juris Doctor applicants will be considered for competitive merit scholarships. No additional application is needed for merit scholarship consideration.

The College of Law evaluates holistically all information provided by applicants in an effort to advance the mission of the College of Law to provide quality legal education, focused on experiential learning and community partnerships, especially in the service of Jacksonville, Florida, and beyond.  We review applications holistically and we consider all information provided by an applicant, including LSAT and GPA as well as personal statements, achievements and accomplishments, and letters of recommendation.
